Here we provide a very good sample of a location set-up for proper drying and stacking of fresh, rough cut lumber.

It is important to have good air flow & ventilation when choosing your area that will be used to store the lumber.   

We will typically provide "stickers" or "spacers" to our clients that are dried and ready to use in between each tier of boards.  Some clients opt to purchase lath from their local Big Box store instead.  We can also cut stickers on site.  

Most clients store the lumber outdoors, but if you have space in your garage, shed, or basement we suggest adding a fan to aid in the circulation and ventilation.  It is important to not rush the drying process.  Drying lumber too quickly can exacerbate checking and splitting, which can substantially reduce the amount of usable lumber.  

Rough sawn lumber actually increases in value the longer you store and dry it. Leaving it as a log in your yard however, decreases its value.  So, the quicker you turn a log into lumber, properly stack and dry it, the better return you will have on your investment.
